The FSSAI, Eastern Region Branch Office – Guwahati, organized the "Food Safety Manthan" session on September 30, 2024, at the Kaziranga Auditorium, IIBM Khanapara, Guwahati. This session aimed to address the unique challenges in the enforcement and compliance of the FSS Act, 2006, in the North Eastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Tripura.
The session, led by senior FSSAI officials deliberated on key topics which included enforcement issues, FSS Act amendments, licensing and registration improvements, standards and laboratory testing challenges, training for field officials, and the involvement of third-party agencies to enhance food safety measures.
The ERO, Kolkata organized the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2024 campaign from 17th September to 1st October 2024, themed "Swabhav Swachhata - Sanskar Swachhata." Key activities included a Swachhata Pledge by officers on 18th September, followed by a quiz and poster competition at JNV School on 20th September. On 30th September, a walkathon, poster-making and slogan-writing competition were held at Srihari Global School, Asansol. The campaign culminated on 2nd October with Swachh Bharat Diwas, featuring a pledge and a cleanliness drive on Street No. 11 near Kolkata ERO. These activities aimed to instill a strong sense of responsibility towards maintaining cleanliness in daily life and fostering a culture of cleanliness as a collective effort.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Eastern Region Office, organized the "Food Safety Manthan" session on September 6, 2024, at Ramakrishna Paramhansa Auditorium, NITTTR, in Kolkata. The session aimed to address the challenges faced by field authorities in enforcing and complying with the FSS Act, 2006, along with its associated Rules and Regulations. The event include participation of Designated Officers (DOs) and Food Safety Officers (FSOs) from the seven eastern states namely West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Sikkim, Odisha, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A highlight of the session was the launch of the FSSAI-ERO Quarterly Newsletter by Ms. Inoshi Sharma. The newsletter captures important enforcement actions, food safety initiatives, and activities under the Eat Right India campaign undertaken by the FSSAI Eastern Regional Office and the states involved.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)- Eastern Region, Kolkata under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) - Eastern Regional Center, Kolkata, proudly organized a comprehensive food safety and awareness session on the occasion of the 10th International Yoga Day.
This event is a part of FSSAI's ongoing 'Eat Right India' initiative, a nationwide campaign aimed at promoting safe, healthy, and sustainable lifestyles. The initiative focuses on educating the public about behavioral changes to reduce lifestyle diseases and enhance overall well-being.
In tandem with the International Yoga Day celebrations, where SAI conducted a yoga session for students and athletes, the FSSAI Eastern Regional Office took the opportunity to engage participants with vital information on food safety practices. During the awareness session, Mr. Ashshri Neli, Technical Officer from FSSAI, emphasized the importance of reading food labels and encouraged the reduction in intake of foods high in fat, salt, and sugar.
The event showcased the critical link between food safety and health, underlining that mindful eating and physical fitness go hand in hand.
The FSSAI- Eastern Regional Office, Kolkata celebrated the World Food Safety Day, 2024 on June 7 in collaboration with Science City, Kolkata (National Council of Science Museum)
The event focused on educating school children and the common public of the country on the importance of food safety and nutrition. Besides general public, approximately 200 school children from four different schools of Kolkata participated in the event. In line with the theme of World Food Safety Day, 2024 “Food Safety: prepare for the unexpected” the event was aimed in raising awareness on common hygiene & sanitary practices.
The major flagship programmes of FSSAI such as Aaj Se Thoda Kam, +F Dekha Kya etc., were highlighted. Various engagement activities for school children through demonstration of good habits, quiz competition, showcasing informative materials were conducted and the program concluded with distribution of prizes to the winners.
